Central Government Big Announcement On Imports

The central government said on Thursday in a notice that imports of all laptops, and pc(personal computers)that fall under  HSN 8741 category will be restricted.

In the notice the central government notified  that all the products that fall under  HSN 8741 category like personnel computers , laptops, etc. their import will be restricted and their import will be allowed only under a valid license for restricted imports.

"Exemption from Import Licensing requirements is allowed for the import of one laptop, tablet, all-in-one personal computer, or ultra compact form factor computer, including those purchased from e-commerce sites via post or courier," it added.

According to the government, an exemption from the licensing is allowed for up to 20 such products per shipment for R&D (Research and Development) Testing Benchmarking and evaluation repair and re-export, and product development reasons.

"Given imports shall be permitted subject to the condition that the imported items be utilized for the stated purposes exclusively and will not be sold," the ministry declared, adding, "Further, following the intended purpose, the products would be either destroyed beyond use or re-exported."
